Description: Dahlia petal in peach onyx mounted onto a black chlorite cylindrical base.

Artist Intention:

Inspired by a dahlia petal, this sculpture is symbolic of the vulnerability and fragility of individualism when removed from the safety and security of community.  Internal energy and momentum are represented by the intersection of waves sculpted into the base, which induce an upward transition of energy.  There are sections of the onyx sculpture that are transparent, translucent, and cavernous which beckons the observer to gaze deeply into the sculpture. The petal is both vulnerable and radiant, as it overcomes the insecurities within.
